Gold Medal Winning Lipstick

Gold Medal Winning Lipstick 〰️

Immediately after winning her individual gold medal at the Olympics, figure skater Alysa Liu proclaimed, “Where’s my lipstick?” and ran to grab it. Shortly after, the viewers got a glimpse at the packaging of her beloved lipstick, and I immediately knew it was from Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty line due to its iconic gold ball top.

After a little sleuthing, it’s clear that Alysa’s lipstick was actually the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil in the shade “Delight”, which Rare Beauty describes as a “rose brown” color. As both an Olympics and beauty lover, I had to find out for myself how good this gold medal-winning lip oil was.

Shade Selection

When I arrived at Sephora, I beelined straight to the Rare Beauty section, found the lip oils, and swatched four different shades (pictured below): Happy (cool pink), Wonder (rose mauve), Delight (Alysa’s pick, rose brown), and Hope (nude mauve). I obviously had to swatch Alysa’s favorite, and then I swatched the three others that I thought would work best for me. I ended up going home with the shade “Wonder”.

What’s The Formula Like?

Rare Beauty describes the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil as “An innovative lip jelly that transforms into a lightweight oil. Starts off glossy, then leaves lips tinted while gently plumping and staying comfortable—never sticky—all day.”

*Side Note: I applied m.ph The Overliner Lip Pencil in the shade “French Exit” just around the perimeter of my lips, because I do this before I apply any lip color to help define my lips.

This product performs exactly how Rare Beauty describes it. When I first applied the product, it felt like a very light jelly texture, but as it sat on my lips, more like a smooth oil. Never any stickiness, and it felt very comfortable to wear. I also felt a subtle tingling feeling, which typically indicates the presence of a plumping ingredient in the product.

The color and glossiness of this lippie were absolute perfection to me. The color strikes a nice balance between opaque and sheer, creating a beautiful and natural lip look, and due to the texture, there was a lovely glossy look to the lips.

Is It Longlasting On The Lips?

The initial application was stunning, but I wanted to know exactly how long this product would last. Forty-five-minutes after applying, I definitely started noticing the glossy sheen disappearing, and by the time it hit one hour, it was completely gone. This was not unsurprising to me as someone who uses lip glosses and lip oils regularly. The shine is meant to be temporary.

However, as this is a lip tint that applies glossily, the color was still very much intact and looked great at this point. If you miss the healthy glow of the initial application, you could easily apply a clear lip balm or gloss on top, and it will look beautiful without having to reapply the color again. Truthfully, I think the tint left behind is actually quite beautiful on its own without the glossy effect, so I think you could leave it as is and be pleased with the results.

When did the color fade? Eating snacks and drinking tea did not budge the color much, but after I ate a full meal, the color was primarily only around my lip line. This doesn’t bother me much, as it’s an easy reapply after a meal, but something to note if you are looking for something with all-day wear.

Who Is This Product Best For?

I think this lip product is best for someone who likes a lip oil or lip gloss, but would also like the color to be a little more long-lasting. This lippie gives you the experience and look initially of a lip oil, but dries down like a tint, which is pretty unique. If you don’t mind reapplying once a day, I think this is for you. There’s something so effortless and beautiful about this product versus a traditional lipstick or lip gloss, so I will continue to use and love mine!

Here’s the bottom line: It’s a solid lip product that provides you with the best of a lip oil and a lip tint. It’s not all day long-lasting, but it certainly has good lasting power up until you eat a full meal. It’s Olympic gold medalist approved, and Sammie Lena approved too!
